Carsten is named to state veterinary board

Ronald Carsten, of Glenwood Springs, a periodic columnist for the Post Independent, has been appointed to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine, the governor’s office announced.

Carsten, who works at Birch Tree Animal Hospital, 1602 Grand Ave., practices holistic veterinary medicine. The Birch Tree website describes his approach as integrating “techniques from a wide variety of healing traditions including conventional medicine and surgery, the use of whole food supplements, western and Chinese herbs, chiropractic and osteopathy, homeopathy and acupuncture.”

He was appointed to a term that expires June 30, 2018. The board conducts professional examinations and grants licenses for veterinarians.
