Applications available for 118th annual Strawberry Days Parade

Applications for the Strawberry Days Parade are now available at The parade takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20, on Grand Avenue from Eighth Street to Strawberry Park. Parade applications are due June 1. This year’s “Glenwood Rocks” parade will feature the traditional Miss Strawberry Days entourage, community floats that never cease to amaze, live music and much more. Grand marshals include Jeannine Ford Artaz, John Reeves and the Beckley family. Floats will be divided into categories including: Commercial/Business, Political Candidates and Nonprofit/Organizations. Floats will be judged, and winners will be recognized for creativity and adhering to this year’s theme. So get your company or organization together now to create the most rockin’ float. Summer youth dance classes in New Castle

The New Castle Recreation Department is offering dance classes for ages 3-10 on Thursday mornings this summer from June 11 through July 30. These classes are hosted by ArtillumA Dance Company and include the Dance Combo Classes for ages 3-5 from 9:15-10 a.m. and for ages 6-9 from 10-11 a.m. These combo classes will teach the basics of ballet, jazz and tap. A youth hip-hop class for ages 5-10 will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon. The classes cost $90 for eight weeks. Preregistration by June 3 is required and can be done online at

Helping Hands Camp work projects

Helping Hands Camp, a free camp for church groups and families, will be doing work projects to prepare for the summer camping season June 5-7 beginning at 10 a.m. Friday and ending at 11 a.m. Sunday at 7802 County Road 319 in Rifle. The prioritized maintenance list and registration are available at All meals are provided. Participants can bring a tent or RV or stay in one of the cabins or rooms. AARP Driver Safety classes

The AARP Driver Safety Class is directed towards drivers 50 and over. Class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Glenwood CMC Center (call 970-384-8747 to register or for more information email Most Colorado auto insurance companies offer discounts to those who complete the course. There is a $15 fee for AARP members and a $20 fee for nonmembers for the workbook and handouts payable to the instructor.
