A Garden Talk: Weeds and Pests
A talk on weeds and pests will be given by master gardeners Deb and Dieter Martin at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Glenwood Community Gardens (adjacent to the Community Center).
River Center’s Spaghetti/Silent Auction Fundraiser
River Center’s third annual Spaghetti/Silent Auction Fundraiser will take place from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 24, in Burning Mountain Park in New Castle. The event will include a live band, auctioneer, silent auction, and games/snow cones for the kids. Silent auction items include a Denver Zoo package for four, ski passes at Aspen and Vail and tickets to professional Colorado teams. Funds raised will be used for emergency assistance in Silt/New Castle and to help fund the Angel Tree and School Supply Drive. Advance tickets are $10 adult/$5 child; day of are $12 adult/$7 child. Tickets can be purchased by calling 984-4333 or stopping by the River Center office between 9 a.m. and noon at 126 N. Fourth in New Castle.
Filoha Meadows Firefly & Rare Orchid Walks
Fireflies, rare orchids and thermal wetlands are only part of what make Filoha Meadows special. Join Roaring Fork Conservancy staff to tour areas of the meadow typically closed to public access while discussing current issues surrounding Filoha Meadows and the Crystal Valley from 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. Lisa Tasker, a plant ecologist with E.M. Ecological, will join the program on both July 7 and July 9 to offer her expertise on the plants we will come across. This adult program is appropriate for those 12 years and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent. Please dress appropriately as the program will happen rain or shine.
