Audition workshop held for ‘Fiddler on the Roof’
If you’re interested in auditioning for Defiance Community Players’ production of “Fiddler on the Roof” but need some help, attend an audition workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenwood Springs. There’s no need to reserve space; just show up with dance shoes and comfortable clothes. Brad Vierheller, Jennetta Howell and Wendy Moore will be on hand to help you select music, learn how to audition with ease and dance comfortably in time for “Fiddler” auditions on Sept. 11 and 12.
Libraries closed for Labor Day
All six branches of the Garfield County Libraries will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. The libraries will resume normal hours at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. You can still browse and request books, movies, and more at http://www.gcpld.org, during the closure.
Glenwood Springs Art Guild’s September Demonstration
The Glenwood Springs Art Guild’s September Demonstration will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1630 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs. Audition schedule announced for ‘Fiddler on the Roof’
Defiance Community Players will be producing “Fiddler on the Roof” this year, directed by Wendy Moore and starring Bob Moore as Tevye, with performances on Nov. 13-15 and 20-22. Auditions will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 12, with callbacks starting at noon on Sept. 13. The location for auditions is to be determined. Children, men and women are needed to fill about 30 spots. Rehearsals will take place Sunday through Thursday with some Sundays off.
Auditions are by appointment only and can be made by sending an email to FiddlerRoofDCP@gmail.com or calling Alexis States at 515-360-6882. Appointments can be made starting on Sept. 4.
For an audition, prepare 16-24 bars of a song, and bring the sheet music to the audition. Also, be prepared to learn and perform a short dance routine that will be taught at the audition.

Filoha Meadows Family Exploration
Bring your family to Filoha Meadows near Redstone from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, and learn from Roaring Fork Conservancy about the local bat population, explore beaver ponds, collect aquatic insects, and go on a scavenger hunt to discover the uniqueness of this special place. You’ll also learn about the other larger hooved animals that call Filoha home. Appropriate for families with children of all ages and their parents. The Carbondale Branch Library is seeking performers, poets, writers and musicians for its second annual L.I.T. (Literature in Town) Crawl. The L.I.T.
