History of the Little Bookcliff Railroad and Mine

The Little Bookcliff Railroad will be the featured topic at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Glenwood Railroad Museum. From 1889-1925, the 11-mile narrow gauge Little Bookcliff Railroad served the Little Bookcliff coalmine and the company town of Carpenter north of Grand Junction. In addition to hauling coal from the mine, it also provided a popular excursion for Grand Junction residents. Paul Nelson, a 60-year resident of Grand Junction and great-grandson of a Denver and Rio Grande engineer, will use historic photographs to illustrate his presentation on the history of this railroad. The program is free and open to the public.

The Glenwood Railroad Museum is located in the Glenwood Railroad Depot across the street from the Hotel Denver on Seventh Street. Entrance to the museum for this program will be from the trackside of the depot.
