Wanna Be A Cub Scout?

Learn everything you need to know about Cub Scouting on Tuesday, June 3, at Veteran’s Park in Silt. Beginning at 6 p.m., pack leaders from the Silt Cub Scout Pack 220 will be on hand to answer your questions and even help get your son signed up for an exciting year of Scouting. We already have a summer full of fun activities planned. All boys going in to the first grade through fifth grade are eligible to be Cub Scouts. We currently serve all boys attending Cactus Valley Elementary as well as the Rifle Elementary and Middle Schools. It’s never too late to start. Defiance Community Players Fundraiser and Silent Auction

Defiance Community Players is hosting its annual fundraiser and silent auction at 6 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue, located at 915 Grand Ave. in Glenwood Springs. Experience the Vaudeville’s all-new summer show, a few inside acts, a great new tap number featuring John Goss, and the laugh-a-thon that has distinguished this entertaining show across the state.



Proceeds from this event will help support funding the Defiance Community Players Fall Production of “Les Misérables.” Defiance Community Players is proud to support students’ continued interest in the performing arts and will be introducing the 2014 Ivy Adler Scholarship recipients during the fundraiser.

All tickets are $30 ($15 of each ticket sold goes to Defiance Community Players). Food and drink are additional. Seating is limited to 160, so make your reservations early. Call Chip Winn Wells at 970-379-5940 to buy tickets.

Forensics: Crime Scene Investigations

Teens, do you have the skills to investigate a crime scene? Join us at the library for a mystery, and learn the science behind modern forensics. You will have the opportunity to collect evidence and solve a library “whodunnit” with the help of science enthusiast Paul Stanley. This program kicks off our 2014 Teen Summer Reading Program. Events will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at the Rifle Branch Library and 4 p.m. at the Parachute Branch Library; on Wednesday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library and 4 p.m. at the Carbondale Branch Library; and on Thursday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at the New Castle Branch Library and 4 p.m. at the Silt Branch Library. Science Showcase

The 2014 Kids’ Summer Reading Program kicks off with Science Showcase. There’ll be demonstrations involving chemistry, sound, motion, matter and electricity. This fast-paced program is hosted by science expert Ben Roy. Shows will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Carbondale Branch Library, and 1:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library; on Wednesday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the New Castle Branch Library and 1:30 p.m. at the Silt Branch Library; and on Thursday, June 12 ,at 10:30 a.m. at the Rifle Branch Library and 1:30 p.m. at the Parachute Branch Library.
