Symphony in the Valley seeks members

Symphony in the Valley is looking for volunteer musicians to join this community orchestra. Practices are currently under way for the Christmas concert series. Symphony in the Valley is a volunteer organization comprising local musicians of all ages who play an orchestra instrument. High school students are welcome with a teacher’s recommendation. AARP Smart Driver Program

RSVP is sponsoring the AARP Smart Driver Program from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the CMC Glenwood Center, 1402 Blake Ave., Glenwood Springs. This will be the last class until late March 2015. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Most automobile insurance companies in Colorado offer a discount to those completing the course, which is directed towards drivers 50 and over. The program covers the following driving topics: how to compensate for changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time; how to handle problem situations such as left turns, right of way, freeway traffic, trucks, and blind spots while driving; what to do if confronted by an aggressive driver; when to use a car phone; how medications may affect driving; how to properly use anti-lock brakes, air bags, and safety belts; and how to assess one’s own and others’ driving abilities via a “Personal Driving Capability Index.” For more information or to enroll call the CMC Senior Center 384-8747.

WindWalkers challenge match

The KNU Foundation will match every dollar up to $20,000 that WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning & Therapy Center raises until Nov. 30. Online payments can be made through the WindWalkers website homepage (www.windwalkerstrc.org) by clicking Donate. All contributions help WindWalkers offer effective therapeutic activities to people with challenges.
