Defiance Community Players audition workshop

Defiance Community Players is holding a free workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, for the upcoming auditions for “Beauty and The Beast” at the Glenwood Springs High School theatre with Jennetta Howell and Brad Vierheller. Colorado Mountain College Theatre calls for actors

Colorado Mountain College Theatre will hold open auditions for “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” on Sept. 7 in the New Space Theatre at the college’s Spring Valley Campus, located at 3000 County Road 114 in Glenwood Springs.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is a hilarious musical revue exploring the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage. Performance dates are Dec. 5-8 and 12-14. Auditions are by appointment on Sept. 7 from 2-5:30 p.m. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a one- to two-minute monologue and a song in their range.

PDA Wheels for the Future

Professional Diesel and Automotive is hosting the PDA Wheels for the Future event at 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Gianinetti Spring Creek in Carbondale. There will be live music, food and beverages to raise money for someone who is deserving and in need of a working car. PDA is initiating this event in the hopes that a deserving person from the community will be nominated to receive a car that has been fully serviced and in good working condition. This selection will be made from recommendations and nominations from members of the community of people who continuously contribute and give back to others in the community. Range Management School 501

Range Management School 501 builds on the information and science first introduced in the original Range Management Schools. This course will explore disturbance-driven ecosystems, riparian issues, animal health and effectiveness monitoring. The practical side of the day is what you bring to the table —the observations you have noticed on the rangeland; the issues you are dealing with as permittees; and what the science says to address the issues. Class meets 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Rifle Branch Library, 207 East Ave. Cost is $25 per person including lunch. Preregistration required. AARP Driver Safety Program

Colorado Mountain College Senior Center and the Pitkin County Senior Center are sponsoring the AARP Driver Safety Program.

The program will be given in Glenwood Springs on Sept. 14 at the CMC Glenwood Springs Center 1402 Blake Ave. There is a $12 fee for AARP members and a $14 for nonmembers to cover class expenses.

Most automobile insurance companies in Colorado offer a discount to those completing the course.

This AARP driver refresher course is directed towards drivers 50 and over.

The program covers the following driving topics:

• How to compensate for changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time;

• How to handle problem situations such as left turns, right of way, freeway traffic, trucks, and blind spots while driving;

• What to do if confronted by an aggressive driver;

• When to use a car phone;

• How medications may affect driving;

• How to properly use anti-lock brakes, air bags and safety belts;

• How to assess one’s own and others’ driving abilities via a “Personal Driving Capability Index.”

Colorado Animal Rescue’s Dressed to the K9s

Join Colorado Animal Rescue (CARE) for the 13th annual fundraiser, “Dressed to the K9s,” a fabulous fashion Show featuring CARE’s most adorable animals. This event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 14, at The Orchard in Carbondale. Featuring guest speaker Philip Tedeschi, executive director of the Institute for Human-Animal Connection at Denver University. Hors d’oeuvres by Fusion Catering, dessert by Killer Cupcakes and a wine, beer and champagne bar and a silent auction. Tickets on Sale for fourth annual Rock ’n’ Roast

Tickets are now on sale for the fourth annual Rock ’n’ Roast scheduled for 6-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Gathering Center at The Orchard in Carbondale. The fun-filled adult event benefits Valley Early Childhood Programs including Children’s Rocky Mountain School (CRMS), Growing Years School and Mt. Sopris Montessori School and will feature music by The Starlettes, wine toss and other games, a silent auction and a drawing for great prizes. Once again, the best of the valley’s roasters, Smoke, Slow Groovin’ BBQ, Hickory House and more will provide the food. Must be 21 to attend.
