Parents’ Night Out — An Evening on the Polar Express

Children ages 3 (must be potty trained) and older may join us for a Subway sandwich dinner, ornament making, games and a viewing of the movie “The Polar Express” from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Glenwood Springs. $10 per child covers the cost of dinner and child care. Glenwood Springs Annual Community Greeting Cards now on sale

The 2013-2014 Annual Community Greeting Card is now available through the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association. The card is a reproduction of an original painting by Arlene Law, titled “Fun for All. All for Fun.” It was selected as the winner of the 2012 Community Greeting Card contest at the 50th annual Fall Art Festival. The cost of this exclusive card is $15 per package of 12. Imprinting is available, and previous year’s cards are also available by special order. Proceeds from the sale of greeting cards fund the chamber’s patronage of the Annual Fall Art Festival.



Carbondale Card

The 2014 Carbondale Card, offering specials, discounts and coupons from participating Carbondale Chamber businesses, is now on sale. Cardholders can scan the code on their card or visit the Chamber website for monthly specials and participating businesses. Cards are an ideal stocking stuffer, or holiday gift for teachers, employees, clients, friends or family and are $25 each and will be valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2014. Cards can be purchased from the Carbondale Chamber in the Third Street Center or visit http://www.Carbondale.com for a list of retailers selling the card.

2013 Holiday Home Tour

Get in the holiday spirit by joining the P.E.O. Chapter IP’s Sixteenth Year of the Tour of Homes in Battlement Mesa and Parachute. This year the homes on the tour will include a home in Parachute built in 1914 having a lot of character and old home flavor, a home with Santa Fe architecture in Fairway Village, and a home in Stone Ridge Village, which has an expansive view of the valley to the north and west. Refreshments will be served at the Historic Battlement Mesa Schoolhouse. The tour will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from any Chapter IP member or by calling Jo Darnall at 285-1037 or Sharon Temple at 285-2318. The funds raised during this event will be used to assist women in furthering their education. This annual event is always a favorite as local families open their homes to the community in the Spirit of the Season.

Elks Holiday Bazaar

The Elks Holiday Bazaar takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Elks Lodge, 59139 Highway 6 in Glenwood Springs, and offers many one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork, baked goods, leather goods, handbags, dream catchers, jewelry, wreaths, aprons and mittens and more.

Health care enrollment session

The West Mountain Region Health Assistance Network in partnership with the Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Aspen branch libraries will be hosting an enrollment session event from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Glenwood Springs and Carbondale branch libraries. Health coverage guides will be available to answer questions, schedule appointments or to assist you with the online application. To schedule an appointment call Jen Quevedo at 970-471-3510. AARP Driver Safety program

The AARP Driver Safety program is being presented in corporation with CMC and RSVP at the CMC Blake Street Center, 1402 Blake Ave., Glenwood Springs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12.

This four-hour course is designed for senior drivers with the goal to help make them safer drivers and keep them driving longer.

The course is designed to help participants: understand the effects of aging on driving; learn driving strategies that take into account the effects of aging; identify the most common crash situations faced by older drivers; reduce chances of having a crash; update their knowledge of today’s roads, traffic laws, vehicles, and to better observe other road users; and think about how they drive and identify when driving may no longer be safe.

Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. For more information and to register call RSVP at 384-8747.

Carbondale Edward Jones Branch Office collects cans for LIFT-UP

Dave Weimer, an Edward Jones financial advisor in Carbondale, is supporting LIFT-UP by using his office as a drop-off location for a canned food drive. Local residents and businesses may help those less fortunate in the community by bringing in items to the Edward Jones branch office, 0326 Highway 133, Suite 110, Carbondale, during regular business hours through Dec. 15.

St. Stephen’s Builders Club pancake breakfast

The Builders Club at St. Stephen’s is hosting its pancake breakfast from 7-8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, in the basement of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Admission is $5 per person. Santa will be there, and kids can tell him what they want for Christmas.
