Literacy Outreach Seeks Volunteer Tutors

Literacy Outreach is looking for tutor volunteers to help people who are eager to improve their reading, writing, math or English-speaking skills. Volunteers do not need prior teaching experience or need to speak another language, just a desire to help, the ability to read and speak English, and at least three hours of time a week to work one-on-one with an adult. A volunteer informational session will be held from 11:30 – 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the New Castle Branch Library, 402 W. Main St. in New Castle. Call Literacy Outreach at 970-945-5282 for more information.

Lotería Night

The Carbondale Branch Library is hosting Lotería Nights on the last Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m., starting on Aug. 28. This game is fun for the whole family and a great way to learn some Spanish. Lotería is an iconic Mexican game, very similar to bingo, but instead of using numbers Loteria playing cards consist of pictograms. Beverages will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring snacks to share. Call the library at 963-2889 for more information.
