National Nursing Home Week

May 8-14 is National Nursing Home Week. Elks in the area are supporting the week of activities by sponsoring a number of events at the Veterans Community Living Center in Rifle (aka Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home). On Mother’s Day there will be visitations of female residents of the center. On May 11 the Elks will host a lunch for the residents. On May 14 there will be an open house celebrating Armed Forces Day. Volunteers and guests are welcome at all the events. New Castle flower fundraiser

The New Castle Friends of the Library and the Community Market will be hosting an evening of music and refreshments from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 13, in the New Castle Library Community Room. A gift of $5 at the door includes coffee and dessert, a prize and baskets of books and cookies to bid on. The First Baptist, New Hope and Episcopal churches are donating the desserts. The money will go into a flower fund for the town of New Castle planters. All ages are welcome to enjoy an evening of bluegrass and original music by Dry Hollow Band from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Crown trail work

Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers is organizing a trail work day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Crown south of Carbondale. Dinner is included. Call 970-927-8241 or email for more info.
