2013 YouthZone Scholarship recipients

Congratulations to the 2013 recipients of the YouthZone Scholarship, Silvia Camarena and Felix Jimenez. Silvia is a 2012 GSHS graduate who studied at CMC after graduation and is starting her sophomore year this fall at Metro State College majoring in business marketing. Felix is a 2013 GSHS graduate. He will be spending his freshman year at CMC and then plans to study mechanical engineering at Colorado School of Mines. The YouthZone Scholarship is awarded to students who have proven sincerity and motivation to pursue post secondary education, strong character and an aptitude and ability to succeed.

Jeremy Wussow graduates from Montana State

Jeremy C. Wussow recently graduated from MSU in Bozeman, Mont., with his master’s in Architecture and bachelor’s in Environmental Design. Jeremy is married to Ingrid, and they have two sons, Aeden 9, and West 5. He is the son of Arlen and Carla Wussow of Glenwood Springs, and Ingrid is the daughter of Randy and Terry Jacobsen of Glenwood Springs. The Wussows are currently residing in Bozeman.

RFSD to hold school board director elections

The Roaring Fork School District will participate in the annual election on Nov. 5. Director districts A and E are scheduled for election this year. These districts are in the El Jebel, Missouri Heights and Basalt communities. For more detailed information about district boundaries and school board director qualifications, contact the district election coordinator at 384-6009. School board candidate petitions may be picked up at the District Office, 1405 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, beginning Aug. 7. Petitions must be returned by Aug. 30, for a candidate’s name to appear on the November ballot. More information is available at

Kimberly Morris named Reach Your Peak Scholar by the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs

Kimberly Morris of New Castle was recently named a Reach Your Peak scholar by the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Morris is one of nearly 40 first-time Reach Your Peak scholars. More than 400 students applied for the scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Morris is studying Pre-Nursing in the UCCS College of Letters, Arts, & Sciences.

The Reach Your Peak Scholarship provides awards for high-achieving, high-potential students funded by community donors in order to grant assistance toward completing a college education and reaching their peak as leaders in the community. To qualify, students must be Colorado residents, working towards a first undergraduate degree, enrolled full time, maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA, show financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and work at least part-time during the academic year.

Reid Jackson graduates from Azusa Pacific

Glenwood Springs resident Reid Jackson graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics on July 26, 2013.
