Haley Miller named to the SAU dean’s list

Haley Miller, of Glenwood Springs, earned a spot on the Fall 2013 dean’s list at Southern Arkansas University.

Miller is a sophomore Nursing (AS) major.

Miller was one of 443 students named to this fall’s dean’s list. To qualify, a student must complete 12 or more semester hours and attain a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Jacqueline Larouche earns faculty honors at Georgia Tech

Jacqueline Larouche of Carbondale earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for Fall 2013 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 4.0 academic average for the semester.

J. Robert Young Scholarship taking applications for graduating high school seniors

Graduating high school seniors can now apply for the J. Robert Young annually renewable scholarships. Students meeting the criteria of the scholarship may receive an application through their high-school counselor, online at, online at, or by visiting any Alpine Bank location.

The J. Robert Young scholarship is offered to graduates of public high schools in locations served by Alpine Bank. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need to a student with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher who is seeking a business-related degree. Students must attend a Colorado college. Two $1,000 renewable scholarships are awarded each year. Applications must be postmarked or emailed to the Western Colorado Community Foundation on or before March 15, 2014.

The J. Robert Young scholarship was established in 2008 by Alpine Bank employees and an executive committee to honor bank chairman, J. Robert (Bob) Young, on the bank’s 35th anniversary. The scholarship is designated for graduates of public high schools in areas served by Alpine Bank who have demonstrated good academic performance and are pursuing a business degree.

The scholarships are administered through Western Colorado Community Foundation, a nonprofit public charity whose mission is to promote charitable giving, build and manage charitable endowment funds for community good, and provide grants, scholarships and other resources to benefit the residents and communities of western Colorado.

Rifle High School accepting International Baccalaureate Programme applications

Rifle High School is now accepting International Baccalaureate Programme applications from incoming juniors. The program: offers academic breadth and depth; cultivates an international mindset; improves time-management skills; encourages critical thinking; creates independent learners and strong writers; assesses more than just examination techniques; and is recognized by universities around the globe that give college credit for it.
