Memories & Milestones
Happy 90th, Walter Huber
Congratulations to Walter Huber on his 90th birthday. Walter immigrated to the United States in 1956 to work as a pastry chef for the Drake Hotel in Chicago. After a short period he moved to Aspen to become the pastry chef for the Hotel Jerome. In June 1957, Walter opened the “Delice Pastry Shop” in Aspen, which he ran until 1979, when he relocated to New Castle. Later that year he opened the “Delice” in Glenwood Springs, which he operated until May 2006, when he retired at age 82. Happy birthday, Poppy!
Kiwanis at WindWalkers
On April 5, the Glenwood Springs Kiwanis Club together with the Glenwood Springs and Basalt High School Key clubs joined to celebrate Kiwanis One Day by helping WindWalkers on Missouri Heights complete much-needed repairs and maintenance. Kiwanis Clubs all over the country completed a project or projects on Saturday, what they call Kiwanis One Day, to show how Kiwanis Clubs support their communities. At WindWalkers the combined Kiwanians and Key Clubbers repaired rails in the perimeter fence, completed the trim for the arena Tack Room, installed rails in the indoor arena, painted riding props, repaired rails around the horse corrals and along the entrance driveway, adjusted the barn doors, and removed wire cages from around the entrance-drive cottonwoods. For more information about Kiwanis and Key Clubs, call Deana Hermanson, Glenwood Springs Kiwanis Club President (970-945-8511).
WindWalkers is an equine assisted learning and therapy center that provides a variety of equine-assisted therapies aiding the development and growth of challenged individuals with therapeutic riding, beginner horsemanship, and EAGALA, which targets mental health and human development needs. For more information about WindWalkers, call 970-963-0583 to reach Beth, Mel, or Tracey.
