Rhodeses celebrate 50 years
Marvin and Monty (Brethower) Rhodes of Battlement Mesa are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21.
Their children are Mandy Wood and Marlin Rhodes. They have four grandchildren.
Monty has lived in Glenwood Springs since she was 8 years old. She attended Glenwood Springs High School and graduated in 1960. During high school she worked at the Glenwood Drive-in and the Red Steer Restaurant. She attended college at CSU and graduated in 1963. She worked for the Re-11 school district for 22 years, then retired and moved to Battlement Mesa in 2002.
Monty is the best wife, mom and grandmother, always putting her family first. She is an avid quilter, participating in quilt clubs and shows, and she makes some of the most beautiful quilts ever.
Marvin has also lived in Glenwood Springs since he was 8 years old. He graduated from GSHS in 1960 and worked such places like shining shoes at the Langley’s Barber Shop (most recently Kings barber shop) and the International mechanics shop. He entered the Navy at the age of 19, being stationed in various places throughout the world, and was discharged in 1966. He worked as a carpenter running his own business for 20-plus years then went to work as the maintenance director for CRMS in 1983. He retired and moved to Battlement Mesa in 2002.
Marvin always was and still is an avid hunter and fisherman. He loves to golf, hike, camp and do woodworking. He loves spending time with his family and builds out of wood the most unbelievable things that anyone can imagine.
Marvin and Monty are true Glenwood natives who went to high school together but didn’t start dating until after high school. They married in the Glenwood Methodist Church on Dec. 21, 1963, when Marvin was on leave from the Navy and it was Monty’s senior year of college at CSU. They moved from San Diego back to Glenwood in 1966 after Marvin was discharged from the Navy. They built their lives and raised their kids in the same house for 35 years. They retired and moved to Battlement Mesa in 2002. They have enjoyed RVing together in their retirement years.
Congratulations on your Big 50 from all your friends and family. We are so proud of you and this milestone!
