Jacob and Masi Smith win drive, chip and putt competition

Jacob and Masi Smith, of Rifle, were interviewed by KREX-TV after each won at the drive, chip and putt competition at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction on June 24.

Jacob, who will be a freshman at Rifle High School, won the boys 14-15 division with a total score of 141. He won all three parts.

Masi, who will be in the eighth grade at Rifle Middle School, won the 12-13 girls division with a total score of 132. She also won all three parts.

Jacob and Masi will now advance to the next regional drive, chip and putt competition at the Common Ground Golf Course in Aurora on Aug. 24. The winners from several more regionals will be able to compete in the finals at The Masters in Augusta, Georgia, next Spring.

Roaring Fork Women’s Tri Team Complete Strawberry Shortcut

Fifty members of the Roaring Fork Women’s Triathlon Team completed their first benchmark of the summer triathlon training program by completing the 5K/10K of the Strawberry Shortcut Race on June 22. This year’s athletes ranged from Rifle to Aspen, aged 23-73, from first-timers to 15-year members of the team. Fourteen members placed in the top three of their age group. The women will continue swim, bike and run training to complete the Tri for the Cure Sprint Triathlon in August.
