Local firefighters are exceptional

I wanted to extend my sincere gratitude to the wonderful firefighters of Garfield County. Recently they were dispatched to my home due to the fact that the entire alarm system, in the home and other buildings, was undergoing its yearly checkup. Needless to say this required a great number of “alarms” for testing. Due to no fault of anyone’s, the testing time for the alarm company had expired while the testing was still being done. Needless to say, since the testing time had passed, dispatch immediately sent out a response team, and I believe they were here within a matter of minutes to do their job.

Your dedication is very much appreciated, and my staff and I are extremely grateful for the peace of mind that one can so easily take for granted.

Thank you so much for your service.

Mount Sopris Rec Riders fundraiser a huge success due to help of many

Mount Sopris Recreational Riders Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer-based snowmobile club that maintains over 120 miles of the Sunlight to Powderhorn trails system. The club maintenance consists of grooming the trails in the winter, clearing trails of debris and remarking trails with markers and signs in the summer and maintaining the equipment to do so. In conjunction with that the club also is responsible for the Marion Trail trailhead access. This parking lot area and access is possible only because of our efforts for the past 39 years. Anyone who uses any of these trails in any fashion should know that it is done for your benefit by this amazing organization. Each year we hold a fundraiser to help with the expenses that are incurred to do this massive project each year. Our funds are raised primarily by memberships, state grooming grants and donations. This year’s fundraiser was such an amazing success that we wanted to thank all of the families who attended and businesses throughout the valley that donated items for our silent auction, door prize drawing and those who sponsored tables. We sincerely appreciate the community in this beautiful valley and how we pull together to support our public lands.

Thank you to elite table sponsors Alpine Bank, Adventure Capital Servicing, Ernie and Carol Gianinetti, R&A Electric, IRMW and Savage Excavation; and reserved table sponsors Damsel Defense — Becky Gremillion, Crystal Springs Builders, Cheney Plumbing and Verheul Family Dentistry, WIN Health Institute, Hughes Excavation, KTM of Aspen, WY Electric, Burdick Family and Mark Gianinetti.

Thank you to the numerous businesses who donated.

We would additionally like to thank The Orchard Church and their amazing staff, Cooter’s Catering, Twirp Anderson, The band 50/fifty, and all the members and board members that helped set up and tear down and a special thanks to Annette Vannice — she does an amazing job organizing and managing the silent auction every year. It was a spectacular time, and we thank you all from the bottom of our snowmobile boots and hearts.

School has great day at Sunlight

I am writing on behalf of the Carbondale Community School to express our gratitude for such a great day on Sunlight Mountain during our All School Ski Day on Feb. 3.

It was a beautiful day for our nearly 135 students and 60 adults to have fun skiing and snowboarding on the mountain.

The Sunlight Staff was professional and polite. Everyone from the lift operators, to the rental technicians, to the ski instructors treated our students and parents with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Special thanks to group sales manager Travis Baptiste for working behind the scenes to make sure our day was a success. He was easy to communicate with, helped us distribute tickets quickly and efficiently, and made sure students who needed rentals and lessons were well taken care of.

We had a great All School Ski Day. Days like this foster community and camaraderie among our students and families. Sunlight Mountain Resort is the perfect venue for our day.

Thanks again,

Jennifer Kendzior and the entire Carbondale Community School faculty and staff
