Another arrest made in officer shooting case

GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” A third man is now in custody in connection with the July 29 shooting of a Glenwood Springs Police officer.
At 9:40 p.m. last night, the Garfield County All Hazards Team along with the Rifle Police Department and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant at 33496 River Frontage Road in Silt taking Mauricio “Flaco” Villa Garcia-Pena, 20, into custody without incident. He remains in the custody of The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)detainer.
A $500,000.00 warrant was issued for his arrest.
Charges include accessory to attempted first-degree murder and accessory to attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and tampering with physical evidence.
Sergio Esteban Ramirez, 20, was arrested on Aug. 3, and is facing the same charges as Garcia-Pena.
Anthony Villegas was arrested on felony drug warrants but has not been charged in the shooting case.
The Glenwood police officer, who was shot has yet to be named, was shot in the chest but a bulletproof vest helped save his life. The shooting occurred near the Glenwood Springs Airport at an automobile impound lot.
