Application period opens for CRWCD grant funding

The Colorado River Water Conservation District has opened its 2005 grant program to applications.Every year, the Colorado River District assists both public and private projects of all sizes within the 15 western Colorado counties the district encompasses. The projects must fulfill the district’s mission of “conservation, use and development of the water resources of the Colorado River and its principal tributaries.”A total of $150,000 in grant funds will be available, with individual grants capped at $15,000. Grants will target the following types of projects:• Development of a new water supply• Improvement of an existing water supply system• Measures that improve instream water quality• Measures that promote water use efficiency• Measures that result in sediment reduction• Implementation of watershed management actions• Tamarisk control measuresTo apply for a Colorado River District grant, an application must include the following materials:• Complete project description• Narrative statement of project purpose• Project budget• Project schedule, including commencement and completion dates• Project sponsor and participant dataApplicants must submit this information to the Colorado River Water Conservation District by Jan. 31.Grant funds will cover 50 percent of the first $10,000 of project cost and 20 percent of the subsequent $50,000, up to a maximum grant amount of $15,000.The river district board will finalize grant awards in April.Application forms and additional information are available online at http://www.crwcd.gov/grantprogram.html, or call the river district at 945-8522 to have materials sent to you.
