April elections set in western Garfield County towns

The towns of New Castle, Silt and Parachute will be conducting municipal elections on April 3.
New Castle and Silt are conducting mail-only elections, while Parachute will hold a traditional polling-place election.
• New Castle: Three town council seats, currently held by Pam Bunn, Mary Metzger and Patrick Stuckey, are up for election. All three are eligible to run again.
Nominating petitions may be picked up starting on Feb. 3 at Town Hall, and must be returned by 5 p.m. on Feb. 23. Candidates must obtain 15 signatures from registered voters living within New Castle.
• Silt: Three trustee seats are up for election. Two of the seats are held by Trustees Teresa Breslin and Sonny Fernandez, who are eligible to run again, and a third seat is vacant.
Nominating petitions may be picked up starting on Feb. 3 at Town Hall, and must be returned by 5 p.m. on Feb. 23. Candidates must obtain 25 signatures from registered voters living within Silt.
• Parachute: Three trustee seats are up for election. The seats are currently held by trustees Judith Hayward, Juanita Williams and Sherry Loschke. Hayward is term-limited, but Williams and Loschke are eligible to run again.
Nominating petitions may be picked up starting on Feb. 13 at Town Hall, and must be returned by 5 p.m. on March 11. Candidates must obtain 20 signatures from registered voters living within Parachute.
In New Castle and Silt, ballots are to be mailed out during the week of March 12, and must be returned to either the Town Clerk’s office or to the Garfield County Clerk’s offices by 7 p.m. on election day, April 3, in order to be counted.
Absentee ballots also must be received at the respective clerk’s office by 7 p.m. on election day. Absentee ballot applications are now available in all three towns.
The last day to register to vote in all three municipal elections is March 5. Registration is available either at the respective town clerk’s office, at the Garfield County Clerk’s office in Glenwood Springs, or at the courthouse annex in Rifle.
The county clerk’s office can be reached at 945-2377. The town clerks can be reached at 984-2311 in New Castle, 876-2353 in Silt or 285-7630 in Parachute.
