Prayer at St. Stephen’s
The public is invited to join the children and staff of St. Stephen’s School at a prayer service commemorating the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, around the flagpole at the school, 414 Hyland Ave., Glenwood Springs.
in Sopris Park
The Roaring Fork Peace Coalition will hold a ceremony honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks from 5:30 p.m. until sunset Wednesday at Sopris Park in Carbondale. Because of limited parking and for environmental reasons, people are encouraged to walk, carpool or take the bus. Please bring your own candles. Be prepared for rain.
A Service for the Evening, focused on peace and reconciliation, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Glenwood Springs.
American Legion ceremonies
A Patriot Day commemoration will be held by the American Legion Post 83 at noon, Wednesday in front of the Glenwood Springs City Hall. Glenwood Springs City Hall and Courthouse Plaza will close at 11:45 a.m. so staff can participate.
American Legion Post 86 in Collbran will hold a memorial, “We Will Remember,” at noon Wednesday at the Women’s Service Memorial on Main Street in Collbran.
open for silent prayer
The Glenwood Springs Mennonite Church will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday for prayer and meditation in memory of all victims of violence.
Prisons to hold
The Rifle Correctional Center, 0200 County Road 219, will join in statewide Sept. 11 flag ceremonies planned by the state Department of Corrections.
The ceremonies will start at 6:45 a.m., with a moment of silence at 7:03 a.m. to mark the strike on the second World Trade Center tower.
The public is welcome to attend.
Eagle County remembers
Eagle County will commemorate the events of Sept. 11 at a community gathering from 8:15-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Ford Amphitheater in Vail.
Good Shepherd Church
to hold two services
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Glenwood Springs will hold services of healing at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday.
at Congregational Church
The Congregational Church of the Valley in New Castle will hold a candlelight vigil for peace at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Basalt marks Patriots Day
Patriots Day will be marked with a memorial flag-lowering ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Basalt Town Hall, followed by other commemorative tributes.
