The public is invited to join the children and staff of St. Stephen’s School at a prayer service today at 8:30 a.m. around the flagpole at the school, 414 Hyland Ave., Glenwood Springs.

The Roaring Fork Peace Coalition will hold a ceremony honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks from 5:30 p.m. until sunset today at Sopris Park in Carbondale. Because of limited parking and for environmental reasons, people are encouraged to walk, carpool or take the bus. Please bring your own candles. Be prepared for rain.
A Service for the Evening, focused on peace and reconciliation, will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Glenwood Springs.
A Patriot Day commemoration will be held by the American Legion Post 83 at noon today in front of the Glenwood Springs City Hall. All city and county offices will be closed from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. so staff may meet at the flagpole in the center of the city/county complex for a few moments of silence.
American Legion Post 86 in Collbran will hold a memorial, “We Will Remember,” at noon today at the Women’s Service Memorial on Main Street in Collbran.

The Congregational Church of the Valley in New Castle will hold a candlelight vigil for peace at 7 p.m. today.
Basalt marks Patriots Day
Patriots Day will be marked with a memorial ceremony at 8:15 a.m. today at Basalt Town Hall, followed by other commemorative tributes.
Eagle County remembers
Eagle County will commemorate the events of Sept. 11 at a community gathering from 8:15-9:45 a.m. today at the Ford Amphitheater in Vail.
Good Shepherd Church
to hold two services
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Glenwood Springs will hold services of healing at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.

The Glenwood Springs Mennonite Church will be open from 9 a.m. to noon today for prayer and meditation in memory of all victims of violence.
Prisons to hold
The Rifle Correctional Center, 0200 County Road 219, will join in statewide Sept. 11 flag ceremonies planned by the state Department of Corrections.
The ceremonies will start at 6:45 a.m., with a moment of silence at 7:03 a.m. to mark the strike on the second World Trade Center tower.
The public is welcome to attend.
