The annual Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot contest, for boys and girls 8 to 13 years old, is slated for Jan. 9 at Glenwood Springs Middle School.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. for 8- and 9-year-olds, followed by other age groups.
Approximate shootout times are 10 a.m. for the 8-9 division, 10:45 a.m. for the 10-11 competition and 12:30 p.m. for the 12-13 age group. There are separate competitions for boys and girls.
All contestants must bring a birth certificate (division slotting based on age as of April 1, 2010). Athletic shoes are required.
Participants get a total of 25 free throws and trophies will be awarded to the top three scores in each division. Boys and girls in the 8-9 grouping have the option of shooting from a line four feet inside the regulation free-throw line.
Winners in each division advance to the district competition in Salida on Jan. 23.
