Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association teams will be out in full force this weekend.

The Grizzly Midget Major hockey team (U18) looks to reinforce its playoff position this weekend when it hosts second-place Hyland Hills Saturday at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink at 10 a.m. and Denver Country Club at 8:30 a.m., Sunday at the Glenwood Springs Community Center ice rink.

The Grizzly Midget Minor hockey team (U16) hosts the Greeley Renegades in Glenwood at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Grizzly Bantam hockey team (U14) hosts Steamboat Springs on at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m. They play one more time on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.

The Grizzly Pee Wee team (U12) travels to Eagle for games against Vail/Eagle Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and at 1 p.m.

The Grizzly Squirt B squad (U10) travels to Denver for games against DCC at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 9:45 a.m.

The Grizzly Squirt C team (U10) hosts Aspen at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday at the Glenwood rink.

The 11th annual Sequoia Glen 5K Run/Walk is slated for March 20 at 3 p.m. The race starts and finishes at the base of Mitchell Creek Road in West Glenwood Springs.

The cost to enter is $10, with all proceeds going to benefit the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation in Silt.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. on race day. Runners and walkers may also pre-register at Independence Run and Hike in Carbondale during regular business hours through March 18.

This is the first race in the 2010 Colorado River Valley Charity Race Series. For more information, or to pre-register in Glenwood, call 945-0979.

Once again this summer, New Castle Recreation Department is partnering with Challenger British Soccer on a summer camp that allows children to advance their skills.

The camp will run July 26-30. Register at Free jerseys are given to those who register 45 days before camp.

Glenwood Springs Soccer Club is now registering players for the spring soccer season.

Boys and girls in pre-school through second grade should sign up by March 15. The season starts April 6. The club is also looking for coaches.

There are also a few player openings in the older divisions: four boys and six girls in the U11-12 bracket; four girls in the U9-10 bracket; and three boys in the U13-14 bracket.

Register as soon as possible as teams are almost full.

The New Castle Recreation Department is still taking registrations for youth soccer and wrestling.

Also, the department is looking for both soccer and wrestling coaches to help with the programs.
