Armando Serrano

Armando Serrano passed away on March 29, 2010 at Grace Health Care in Glenwood Springs. He was 86 years old.
Armando was born in Coyote, N.M. on May 23, 1923 to Placido and Gorgonia (Salazar) Serrano. He spent his childhood in Fruita. He was a life-long resident of Garfield County, residing in Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. He was a rancher. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, amateur boxing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He married Emma Chavez on April 19, 1945 in Grand Junction. She was preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Armando Jr. and grandson, Armando “Mondo” Porter.
He is survived by his three daughters, Rose (Chris) Porter-Anderson and Gloria Serrano both of New Castle and Barbara (Jack) VanHoose of Rio Rancho, N.M.; brothers, Elifar Serrano and Don (Sylvia) Serrano both of Fruita and Lorenzo Serrano of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Jason Porter, Christopher and David Anderson, Zandria and Devin VanHoose, Renee (Travis) Fowler, Tricia (Adam) Herrera, Lisa Mathews and Shane Pittenger, Nina Haag and Desirae Haag; nine great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, April 5 from 3-6 p.m. with Rosary following at 7 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Mass will be Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Callahan-Edfast Mortuary for the Serrano Trust.
