GRAND JUNCTION – Hundreds of people associated with tourism will converge upon Grand Junction this week for the Governor’s 207 Colorado Tourism Conference. The conference runs Wednesday through Friday at Two Rivers Convention Center.Headlining the Friday luncheon will be outdoor adventurer Aron Ralston. Ralston recuperated in Grand Junction after cutting his lower right arm off in the wilds of Utah in order to save himself. He had been hiking alone in May 2003 when a boulder rolled on to his arm, pinning him.He has since become an inspirational speaker and written a best-seller, “Between a Rock and a Hard Place,” about his survival in the wilderness. The conference also features a culinary and agri-tourism mini-conference Wednesday morning. In the Grand Valley, some orchards now allow people to tour, said Jennifer Grossheim-Harris, marketing director at the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau.”That’s the trend. We are at the cutting edge,” she said.Other speakers include Dennis Snow, formerly of the Walt Disney World Co.; Jerry Shriver, writer for USA Today; Joaquin Murrietta-Saldivar of the Sonoran Institute; Jim Prezise of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation; and more.
