Acclaimed Austin-based singer-songwriter Eliza Gilkyson returns to Carbondale for one night only to perform at the Thunder River Theatre at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Gilkyson (www.elizagilkyson. com) has been described as a musical cousin to Lucinda Williams. As a third-generation musician and performer, she has built a strong following as one of this country’s finest contemporary folk artists, with a reputation for edgy lyrics filled with piercing imagery, all presented in a lush and passionate voice. Her 2004 release “Land of Milk and Honey” was honored with a Grammy Award nomination, while her follow-up release, “Paradise Hotel,” earned numerous awards and honors. Glenwood Dance Academy’s fall classes start Sept. 4. In addition to ballet, tap, jazz, and modern professional classes, a wide variety of recreational dance classes are available including adult ballet, adult jazz and adult tap, adult and kids hip-hop, adult and kids salsa, and ballroom dancing. Auditions for Aspen Community Theatre’s upcoming fall production, “She Loves Me,” directed by Mike Monroney, will be held Sept. 8-9. This romantic comedy by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the songwriting team of Fiddler on the Roof, showcases a small (18-24) but strong ensemble cast playing a range of vivid, memorable characters.

Auditions are open to adults of all ages; there are also a limited number of parts for young adults. Copies of the script and soundtrack are available for perusal at the Pitkin County Library. Audition guidelines: bring a prepared song with sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. No prepared monologues. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for movement.
