Attempted murder in Garfield County

A 27-year-old man is in custody in the Garfield County Jail charged with attempted first degree murder for allegedly shooting another man in the head. The two were in a bunkhouse at a lodge 39 miles east of Meeker.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department reported Anthony Michael Franke is in custody in connection with the shooting that occurred at 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

The shooting took place at the Ripple Creek Lodge.

Franke reportedly surrendered without incident.

The victim is Jason Douglas Wiley, 24. He was shot in the head and was flown by Flight for Life helicopter to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction where he is listed in critical condition.

Franke was also charged with first degree assault and reckless endangerment.
