Authorities: Watch out for burglaries in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Colorado ” Thieves have been targeting homes in the Castle Valley Ranch area since October, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the area has had “several” burglaries, and one of the main targets has been newly constructed homes. Items stolen include appliances, exterior lighting, jewelry, passports, IDs and credit cards. “Several” Realtor locks were also tampered with, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said it could be more than one person stealing things, and they could be transporting stolen items using “a larger pickup truck and/or trailer.”

Community Relations Deputy Tanny McGinnis referred calls for more information to the New Castle Police Department. New Castle Police Chief Chris Sadler couldn’t be immediately reached.

Residents are encouraged to secure their homes and report any suspicious activity by calling 911. Anyone with information leading to prosecution of the thefts can remain anonymous and earn up to $1,000 by leaving a message with Garfield County Crime Stoppers at 945-0101.
