Baby of slain Grand Junction mother dies

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” The baby girl of a slain Grand Junction woman has been removed from life support and has died at a hospital.

The infant was delivered by emergency Caesarean section Sunday after 23-year-old Anna Maria Macias was shot in the neck and killed. She was about 8-and-a-half months pregnant.

Family members decided to remove the girl, named Maria, from life support on Tuesday. She died a short time later.

An autopsy report is expected this week.

Police say 39-year-old Lonnie Herrera shot and killed Macias after she obtained a restraining order against him. Authorities arrested Herrera on suspicion of first-degree murder Monday in Delta.

He’s being held on $2 million bond.
