Baby’s condition critical after van hits apartment

CARBONDALE – A 2-month-old boy is in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Denver after he was injured when a van crashed into a Carbondale apartment building Saturday evening.The infant was in the apartment when the van crashed through the wall.Carbondale Police Officer Matt Gardner said that the baby has shown improvement including a little movement on his own. More medical tests will be given to the infant over the next few days.The baby is Miguel Mayoral, son of Miguel Mayoral, of Carbondale. Gardner did not know the mother’s name.The 2-month-old was the only person to suffer an injury after Arias-Felipe Guillero, 21, of Carbondale, drove his Ford Aerostar minivan into the Garfield Avenue Apartments building. Gardner said it was a low-speed accident, when the van hopped a small curb and continued down an incline to the building. Guillero has been charged with DUI and vehicular assault, a Class 4 felony. Gardner said further charges are possible depending on the baby’s recovery.
