A Basalt fourth gradera€™s willingness to jump into a fundraising effort for the American Heart Association paid unexpected dividends for him and his family.

Daniel Yoshimura of Basalt Elementary School won a trip for four to Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

Daniel was one of eight winners nationally who were drawn at random. Kids who raised more than $150 in the annual Jump Rope for the Heart fundraiser were eligible for the drawing. There were about 10,000 entries, according to Carol King, physical education teacher at Basalt Elementary School.

Jump Rope for the Heart teaches kids about community service and encourages them to learn about healthy and active lifestyles, King said. The school has participated in the event for 12 years, raising about $100,000 for the heart association for research into heart disease and strokes.

Daniel won a four-day, three-night Disney vacation. His family will stay at a Disney Resort Hotel, receive round-trip air transportation and get free admission to a Disney park. His family gets to choose if it visits Magic Kingdom, MGM, Epcot or Animal Kingdom. Daniel received his a€œboarding passa€ at a recent Basalt Elementary School assembly from King and Cinderella, who doubles as Kymberlee Wood.
