Basalt death ruled suicide

BASALT, Colorado – The Pitkin County Coroner’s Office has ruled the death of a 22-year-old Glenwood Springs man whose body was found hanging from a tree in Basalt over the weekend a suicide.

Authorities positively identified the victim as Alex William Hyatt-Ryan, who had been reported missing since late September.

“The Pitkin County Coroner’s investigation revealed no foul play involving his death,” according to a press release issued Tuesday morning. “The death has been determined self inflicted due to hanging.”

Basalt Police reported early Sunday that two boys who were riding their bicycles in a wooded area near Fairview Cemetery found the body. However, the exact time and date of Hyatt-Ryan’s death was undetermined.
