BASALT, Colorado – A Basalt man was arrested on multiple charges Wednesday for allegedly supplying alcohol to an underage male then making unwanted sexual advances on him, police said Thursday.

Carlos Bringas Rodriguez, 19, allegedly invited a 16-year-old boy to his home on Homestead Drive on Wednesday evening, May 12, according to Sgt. Stu Curry. The boy drank vodka provided by Rodriguez and got extremely intoxicated, police believe.

Rodriguez “starts kissing him and touching him and this guy gets freaked out,” Curry said.

The boy started throwing up, so Rodriguez took the boy to his own house and told his mother he found him in that condition at Movieland, according to Curry.

The Basalt Police Department school resource officer heard about the incident and triggered an investigation. Rodriguez was arrested at his residence without incident Wednesday, although he gave police the false name of Patricio Iron Rodriguez and an age of 21. Police checking his background later learned his real identity and age.

Rodriguez was charged with unlawful sexual contact, a class one misdemeanor; contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and intimidating a witness, both felonies, Curry said. A fourth charge of criminal impersonation will likely be added.

The suspect allegedly contacted the victim after the investigation started and warned him there would be retribution if he got in trouble for the incident, Curry said.

Rodriguez is being held on $50,000 bond in Eagle County Jail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hadn’t informed the jail staff as of Thursday at 5 p.m. if it wanted Rodriguez held while it checked his immigration status. A restraining order was issued to prevent Rodriguez from contacting the victim.

Curry said police are investigating reports that Rodriguez supplied alcohol to other minors.

Rodriguez was living in the same residence where police arrested Jonas “Junior” Leon on Jan. 24 for the armed robbery of Clark’s Market in Basalt on the same day. Leon pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and felony menacing. He is awaiting sentencing.
