A Basalt senior is one of two Western Region students to be awarded a $1,000 post-secondary scholarship.
Basalt High School’s Lilu Illouz and Rio Blanco County’s Aaliyah M. Castillo were both awarded the Colorado County Clerks Association scholarship, given to outstanding Colorado high school seniors, particularly in the field of public service, according to a press release.
“I’m thrilled that a student from Pitkin County was chosen in 2025,” Pitkin County Clerk & Recorder Ingrid Greuter said in the release.
The applicants were judged on their grades, essays, and extracurricular activities, as well as community service and involvement.
Illouz plans to study art history at The American University of Paris this fall. She will graduate from Basalt High School on May 24.
