Baseball Bears edge Grand Valley

RIFLE, Colorado – Scoring three runs in the sixth inning, Rifle’s baseball team topped visiting Grand Valley on Thursday, 8-5.
Ricardo Quezada led Rifle at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. That two-bagger came in the sixth, capping the Bears’ game-winning rally.
Cody Chick also went 3-for-4. He smacked a pair of doubles and scored two runs. Michael Cash and Chris Hesselberg each finished up 2-for-2 for Rifle, which improved to 2-4.
Pitcher Tristan Quigley recorded the win in relief.
Michael Kellebreu led the Cardinals offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double. Jason Hart went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Grand Valley was playing in its first game of the season.

The family of Rosie Ferrin has worked to clean up and make safe again the old schoolhouse in downtown New Castle. Ferrin died this summer and had owned the building that included classrooms turned into apartments for years.
