Bea Underwood student wins Elks poster contest

A drug awareness poster by Bea Underwood Elementary student Lindsey Gardner has been selected as the top poster for Colorado.A drug awareness poster by Bea Underwood Elementary student Lindsey Gardner has been selected as the top poster for Colorado. Her entry was one of 350 submitted statewide; 250 of those entries came from the Rifle Elks Lodge 2195 annual Drug Awareness Poster contest. The lodge encompasses Meeker, Silt, Rifle and Parachute. The contest is open to all third-, fourth- and fifth-graders in the state. Lindsey’s poster will now be a submission for the national Elks poster contest. Only the top poster from each state makes it to nationals.When asked how she came up with her poster design Lindsey shyly shrugged her shoulders and quietly said, “It just came to me while I was working on it.”Other winners from Bea Underwood were Emily Williams and Breanan Garcia, who worked as a team to design their poster.Mary Romero, youth activities director for Rifle Elks Lodge 2195 and the drug awareness chairwoman for the Mountain District, was amazed at the number of entries that the lodge received. “There were so many entries, which made the selection process extremely tough,” Romero said.Mary Romero, youth activities director for Rifle Elks Lodge 2195 and the drug awareness chairwoman for the Mountain District, was amazed at the number of entries that the lodge received. “There were so many entries, which made the selection process extremely tough,” Romero said.
