Post Independent staff report

WHEAT RIDGE, Colorado – Rifle just couldn’t solve Wheat Ridge’s Eugene Tuller. The pitcher tossed a five-inning no-hitter as the Farmers dispatched of the visiting Bears, 10-0, in the first round of the Class 4A baseball playoffs on Monday.

Wheat Ridge, seeded third in the 32-team bracket, put up six runs in the fifth to end it.

Chris Hesselberg pitched the distance for Rifle, allowing just three hits. He did issue 10 walks, though.

The Farmers moved on to face Skyline later in the day, losing by a score of 5-1. The Bears, owners of the No. 30 seed, ended their season with a 9-11 record.
