Bears’ offense comes out of hibernation in win over Rams

With a 5-0 lead after two innings of Tuesday’s game against visiting Rifle, Roaring Fork’s baseball team appeared to be in good shape.

But then the Bears’ bats came alive.

Doing 19 runs worth of damage over the course of the next five innings, Rifle escaped Carbondale with a 19-8 victory.

Triston Quigley had a monster day at the plate for the Bears, driving in six runs. He was 2 for 5 with a double and a grand slam. Teammate Tanner Quick also homered as part of a 1 for 3 afternoon.

Also chipping in offensively for Rifle was Danny Bartels, who was 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Nate Schilt (2 for 3, double), Mitch Ray (3 for 4, triple, two RBIs), Bailey Hoffmeister (two singles, two stolen bases) and Layton Stutsman (triple, two RBIs) also contributed.

Bartels picked up the win on the mound with a relief appearance. He is now 9-0 on the season, which leads the entire state at all levels. He struck out five in four innings of work.

Clay Gross was 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Roaring Fork. Tanner Nieslanik was 2 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI.

The win bumped first-place Rifle to 14-1 overall and to 13-1 in the 3A Western Slope League.
