Bears top Cards in game featuring 27 runs, 24 hits

In a slugfest in Parachute, Rifle’s softball team outlasted Grand Valley, 14-13.

The teams combined for 24 hits in a dramatic showdown between neighboring rivals.

Emma Speer led the Bears at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a walk, a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Speer’s homer was her sixth of the season.

Cheyenne Roark also went 3 for 4, finishing with a double, a run and an RBI.

Allie Ehlers (1 for 3, two walks, four stolen bases, three runs, RBI), Cassidy Blackard (1 for 3, two walks, three runs), Melissa Steinbach (2 for 4, two runs, RBI), Chante Church (1 for 3, walk, two runs, two stolen bases) all chipped in on offense for Rifle.

Mary Wright and Taylor Morris each had pinch-hit singles for the Bears in the seventh inning.

Both teams scored six runs in the seventh inning to make for a compelling finish.

With the win, Rifle improved to 9-8 overall and to 4-3 in the 3A Western Slope League.
