Bennett Shotwell

Bennett Shotwell, 74, of Carbondale, Colorado, was born Nov. 28, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Ruth Louise (Bennett) and Bug Mantooth Shotwell. He died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2012 in a Fort Worth hospital.

Mr. Shotwell had resided in Carbondale, Colo. since 1985. He was the owner of Bennett’s Barbeque Restaurant, serving Texas-style barbeque in eleven locations. Previously, he had worked for Tenneco Oil for 18 years. Mr. Shotwell was very active and enjoyed hiking, skiing and golf. He was a graduate of Texas Christian University, attending TCU on a baseball scholarship.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Goold Shotwell of Carbondale, Colo.; daughters and sons-in-law, Shaunda and Sid Huggins, Gwendolyn Shotwell, and Christine and Kenneth Soule, all of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Brooke Nelson, Danielle Huggins, Josh Huggins, Jessica Soule, Zechariah Soule, Grey Soule and Cole Soule, all of Denver; sisters and brother-in-law, Jan and Pat Gammill, Judy Dixon, all of Lufkin; and nephews, Toby Roland of Lufkin, Shane Dixon of LaGrange, Texas, Erik Van Hofwegen of Arlington, Texas, Kurt Van Hofwegen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Nathan Van Hofwegen of Fort Worth.



Preceding Mr. Shotwell in death were his parents and a nephew, Rusty Roland.

Private graveside services will be held for Mr. Shotwell in the Bennett Cemetery.
