Berniece Anna Armstrong

Berniece Anna Armstrong (1931-2013), 82, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 2, at Fort Collins Health Care Center. She was born at home on Roan Creek (near DeBeque, CO) on January 26, 1931, to John and Gertrude (Letson) Armstrong.

She married Otis Murray Jr. in Rifle, CO, on September 5, 1948. They had two children, Connie and Russel, and lived for many years on Wallace Creek, south of Parachute. Berniece returned to college in the 1980s and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Metropolitan State University in Denver in 1985. She worked for 6 years for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, retiring in 2005.

Berniece was preceded in death by brothers Roy and Louis, and sister Virginia (Blue).

She is survived by brothers Otto Armstrong (Grand Junction) and Harvey Armstrong (Silt); children Connie Murray (Fort Collins) and Russel Murray (Denver); and six grandchildren, Carl VanGorder, Tucson, AZ, William VanGorder, Providence, RI, Chelsie VanGorder, Fort Collins, CO, Katherine Murray, Berkeley, CA, Christopher Murray, Houston, TX, and Dr. Gregg Murray, Atlanta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 22, at 2 pm at Grand Valley Methodist Church in Parachute, CO.
