Bertha "Bert" Matheson

Bertha “Bert” Matheson of Minturn died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Vail Valley Medical Center. She was 69.

Mrs. Matheson was born July 27, 1933, in Rodarte, N.M., to Mary Hilda and Uvaldo Fresquez.

She grew up in Mount Harris, Colo., and Minturn and graduated from Minturn High School.



She married Kenneth “Smokey” Matheson in Taos, N.M.

She worked for Chet and Darlene at the Minturn Cleaners, then CMI, and then the TurnTable as a waitress and cashier.



This was her favorite position since she was able to visit with all of her friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Uvaldo Fresquez in 1984.

Mrs. Matheson is survived by husband Kenneth “Smokey” Matheson of Minturn; by mother Mary Fresquez of Glenwood Springs; by son Michael Dirk Matheson of Minturn; by brothers and sisters-in-law Vernon and Lois Fresquez of Glenwood Springs and Paul and Lucretia Fresquez of Williamsburg, Va.; by sisters and brothers-in-law Jo and Paul Huffman of Glenwood Springs, Ruby and Alex Lopez of Trampas, N.M., and Norma and Dave Salaz of Grand Junction; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary was said Tuesday, March 18, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Minturn. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at St. Patrick’s, followed by burial in the Riverview Cemetery in Minturn.

Farnum-Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shaw Cancer Center in Edwards.
