`Best of the Best’ saved a scrappy town

Dear Editor,

First, I would like to thank Heather McGregor for her honesty, fortitude and humility in correcting an inaccurate reporting of the Wal-Mart incident. It takes a great deal of guts to admit an error and pledge to learn from such an incident. Heather is an honest and ethical editor and journalist.

Regarding the Coal Seam Fire, I cannot say enough about all parties involved in the rescue of our town. From the local level on up to the Stage I firefighters, they have all fought mightily to save our town. As shown in the past, the “Family of Glenwood Springs” is determined to prevail. We are, indeed, scrappy and we have the “Best of the Best.”

Due to the local, multi-valley, state and federal emergency personnel and firefighters and our local citizens, we are proudly coming through another disaster. The commitment of our local and multi-valley emergency personnel and firemen deterred the most devastation. With state, multi-state and federal help, we stopped the “the devil of nature.” This was not without the loss of personal property and belongings, but it was without the loss of life, which is the most important. The residents of Glenwood seem to have an innate ability to rebuild and retain history at the same time.

There are no words to express my family’s sorrow to those who lost their homes and keepsakes and our gratitude to all of Glenwood and others.
