Bette Ellen Smith passed away Aug. 17, 2006, at Valley View Hospital.Bette was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Los Angeles, to Carl E. and Alice B. (Baker) Birdsall.Bette married Elmer (Ed) Smith on Aug. 21, 1943, in Santa Ana, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1999. Prior to her retirement, Bette had been a beautician. She had been a resident of the Roaring Fork Valley area for 20 years and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Carbondale Congregation. Her cheerful attitude and beautiful smile will be missed by all.She is survived by daughters Pamela Baldwin of Carbondale and Deborah Puente of Hawaii; sisters Ruth Montgomery and Dorothy Hooper, both of Oceanside, Calif.; grandchildren Hayden, Piper, Malakai, Sky and Taze Baldwin and Vicky Puente.A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 0097 Lions Ridge Road, Carbondale. Cremation has already taken place.Farnum-Holt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
