Betty Jane Romero

Betty Jane Romero of Elkhart, Kan., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at her home. She was 71.

She was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Red River, N.M., to Jess and Margaret Horner.

She married Joe T. Romero on Dec. 27, 1963, in Raton, N.M.



She moved to Elkhart, Kan., in 1981, and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Romero was a member of the United Methodist Church of Elkhart, Kan.



She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, housekeeping and yard work.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by four brothers.

Mrs. Romero is survived by her husband, Joe Romero of Elkhart; by sons Clifton Horner of Elkhart, Herb Horner of Guymon, Okla., and Bruce Romero of Glenwood Springs; by a daughter, Betty Jo Jenkins of Elkhart; by brothers Tommy Horner of San Diego and Vernon Horner of Raton, N.M.; by sisters Jessie Grubelnik of Raton, Shirley Oldham of Lawton, Okla., Francine Marshall of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Helen Berg of Raton; and by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Saturday, June 21, at the United Methodist Church of Elkhart, Kan. Burial followed at Elkhart Cemetery.

Garnand Funeral Home of Elkhart was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
