Bid is welcome turn of events for town

It took a while, but Carbondale finally received an acceptable bid to add a downvalley turn lane to Highway 133 at the Highway 82 intersection.Earthworks Construction bid $209,000 for the project, according to a memo from assistant town manager Bentley Henderson. He has recommended the Board of Trustees accept the bid.Carbondale hoped to add the turn lane last fall, but the sole bid was nearly double what the town had budgeted.Town officials have said they hope an extra downvalley turn lane onto Highway 82 will alleviate afternoon traffic backups on Highway 133, which sometimes extend a half mile or more to the south.The Board of Trustees will discuss the Earthworks bid at tonight’s meeting.Other agenda items include:A special events liquor license application from the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities for the annual Mountain Fair, scheduled for July 26-28.-A continued public hearing on the town’s lighting ordinance.Preliminary plat referral of the Town Center subdivision to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Town Center is proposed for the two-acre site of the existing Bonanza Mobile Home Park north of the Dinkel Building.Discussion of a study for pedestrian access under Highway 82 at an existing culvert east of Highway 133.A public hearing on the Lines Plaza II condominium exemption at 147 Village Lane.Tonight’s meeting starts at 7 p.m.
