Big day for Bears at Redlands Mesa

Triston Quigley shot a 75, Danny Bartels a 77 and Ty Caron an 83 to lift Rifle High School’s boys golf team to a second-place finish in Monday’s tournament at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa.

The Bears’ team score of 235 landed them in a tie for first with Grand Junction, but Rifle dropped a 3-on-3 playoff with the Tigers to dip to second place.

Tieg Hauer (93) and Jacob Withee (94) also turned in solid rounds for the Bears at the Grand Junction course.

Emma Speer collected two hits and Allie Ehlers, Cassidy Blackard and Melissa Steinbach had one apiece for Rifle in a 23-5 softball loss to Delta on Tuesday.

The visiting Panthers broke the game open with nine-run outbursts in both the third and fifth innings.

The Bears (2-1) committed nine errors in defeat.
