Bike path section closed due to high water

Part of the bike path in Glenwood Canyon has been closed due to high water, the Colorado Department of Transportation said Monday. The closure is between the Hanging Lake rest area and the Shoshone power plant. The Colorado River was flowing four inches above the path along part of that stretch Monday. The closure could last through the Memorial Day weekend. That’s the traditional kickoff of Glenwood Springs’ summer tourism season, when visitors seek out attractions such as the bike path. This is the first time the path has closed in five years. A combination of significant snowfall last winter and recent high temperatures have contributed to high runoff on the Colorado River.Forecasters are predicting the river will peak Wednesday.
