`Bikes to Mics’ a showdown at Sunlight

Local songbirds will compete for a chance to be “discovered” in the sixth annual KMTS Country Showdown, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Sunlight Mountain Resort.

Also highlighting the day will be cross country and downhill mountain bike races.

Sponsored by the Glenwood Springs Recreation Department, Sunlight Mountain Resort and KMTS radio, the event will benefit the building fund for the Glenwood Springs Aquatic Center.

This year KMTS takes Country Showdown to a new level. It is the first in a four-level nationwide competition for talented country musicians to compete forentry into to the state competition.

To round out the day, rising country artist Mark McGuinn will appear in concert at 6:30 p.m. McGuinn has his roots in jazz and is a first-rate country composer, vocalist and instrumentalist.

Pre-registration for the mountain bike race is $25 for a single event and $35 for both events. Races are scheduled throughout the day based on skill level.

Starting mid-afternoon, 10 talented singers will vie for the title of 2003 KMTS Colgate Country Showdown local winner, and advances to the state competition. The winner then moves on to the regional competition. At the national level, singers compete for a recording contract and $100,000, and a chance to kick start a career.

Admission is $10 per person. Family passes can be purchased from Warehouse Furniture in Glenwood Springs.
